Our Farmer Field School (FFS) helps smallholder farmers improve their agronomy skills around soil management, integrated pest management, application of fertiliser and seedling to harvest cycle management. This approach ensures participants have sound business acumen to improve yields and incomes alongside implementing environmentally sustainable practices.
Recognising that training alone isn’t enough, we also incorporate a multi faceted approach around value chain mapping and tailored agri-finance to ensure agricultural communities can access the agricultural inputs and outputs they need for success.
Good Return is currently working with Solidaridad, World Education Indonesia, and CUKK, Indonesia’s second largest credit union to support improved livelihoods for smallholder farmers in West Kalimantan, Borneo. CUKK operates in a region containing more than 130,000ha of smallholder palm oil. The project will expand the network of farmers accessing:
- Agricultural and financial training programs to progress the development of effective and well-informed farmer cooperatives, enabling farmer groups to work together towards RSPO certification
- Regular agricultural inputs such as fertiliser, seedlings to maximise yield and income opportunities
- Appropriately designed and delivered financial products, suitable to rural and agricultural livelihoods
- Timely information via SMS about market and product prices to help farmers to make informed decisions around their business implementation
